The most recent meeting minutes will be at the top left.

Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2025 Meeting Minutes
Spring Creek BBQ. Meeting opened by Bill Bradley around 11:30
Treasury balance: $4892.50 Jack has a detailed report if requested.
Dick Light: Dick entered hospice this week. The doctors have given him 4 to 6 weeks. He is at the Belterra Rehab and Long Term Care facility on the northeast corner of Lake Forest and 380 in room 215. Any member who can do so is encouraged to go see him if they can. He keeps his door closed to minimize hallway noise, so please knock and wait for him to answer if you choose to visit. Visiting hours are 8 am to 8pm. He has no specific restrictions if you wish to bring him something.
Rick Maxwell attended the National Honor Flight event on June 6th this year with his daughter as his guardian. He related to the group how extremely wonderful and moving this event was to both of them, and Marcy and his daughter related some of their experiences as well. After the meeting concluded, it was suggested by one of the attendees that they write down these experiences and that we can post them on the webpage.
We have a new website that has received generally positive feedback from the membership. Some suggestions have been made which need to be incorporated into the website, both for aesthetics and to ensure compliance with our non profit status. These changes will be incorporated in the next week or so. If anyone has additional suggestions or has pictures of various events we have participated in, please email them to Bill Bradley. The officers need to hold a meeting in the near future to deal with some legal requirements of the website.
Nathan was unable to attend, but reported out by email that we expect to again be able to support 4 scholarships this year. Two will be from the Maxwell family and two will be from the group treasury. There is an active link on the webpage for individuals to fill out a Google Docs form for this year’s scholarships.
Yard sign sales have gone well. Members who attend a meeting can purchase a sign at a discount. The current price for a sign purchased by the general public is $55.
We have a firm commitment from the Frontiers of Flight museum to purchase our yard flags for their gift shop. The gift shop manager has stated that she will write up a purchase order for $500 worth of flags as an initial order and she is working through the process as we would be a new supplier. We will include one additional flag as a thank you for this opportunity. She is very excited to have these flags in their gift shop as they hit numerous buttons for them in terms of items they wish to carry and where they are coming from. They also have a “local non profit vendor day” once a year called Moon Day. This event took place on July 19 this year, so we missed it, but we are invited to attend for next year. On that day, they will remove our flags from the floor in the gift shop and we can sell them directly as part of the event.
A discussion has taken place with the Medal of Honor museum to carry our flags as well. This was a preliminary discussion and will require follow-up.
We will be attending the Guns and Hoses event again this year on September 13. We need people to arrive and begin setup between 4 and 5 pm. Marcy suggested we try to develop a more permanent and deeper relationship with them which was received very positively. This could allow us to have a better booth and advertising in the Guns and Hoses event pamphlet. He also suggested we make a more significant effort to recruit new membership at this event.
We participated in both the Audie Murphy Parade and the McKinney 4th of July parade again this year. Pictures have been posted to the website. At the parade in Farmersville, we met an individual who restores old military vehicles. He also runs the Iron Soldier Coffee Company. We discussed with him the possibility of purchasing some of his coffee samples to sell at events as another fund raiser. This was proposed at the meeting with the attending membership agreeing that it was a good idea. Jack Pelland is pursuing purchasing at least a case of samples from them for us to sell at the Guns and Hoses event.
Bill Bradley will be visiting the Galveston Naval Museum at the end of the month for several reasons. Currently they have six yard flags which have not been paid for due to multiple personnel changes on their end. It is believed that the purchase of the flags got lost in the shuffle of new personnel. Bill will either secure a deal with them to purchase yard flags or bring the flags they have back to restock in inventory.
There was a discussion to have a visit at the Military Heritage Collection Museum in Nevada, Texas. The proprietor of the museum very generously agreed to donate a certificate to allow an individual to drive a tank as a raffle item for our Guns and Hoses event. This visit would allow us to secure that certificate as well as have a great family outing day, and it was decided that our next monthly meeting on August 16th will be held there. We will have more information posted on the website for this event as we would like to set up a place to have a cookout while we are there. Bill Bradley will contact them to determine what options we have there for a suitable location onsite and what we will need to bring. It is assumed we will need to bring everything to support this event.
We will have a Family Night Out on Wednesday, August 27th. We will pick a location by group discussion at the August 16th meeting.
Our September meeting will be again held at the Spring Creek Barbeque in McKinney, Texas on September 20.
The meeting was adjourned at about 12:45 pm.
